Antique Japanese Worker's & Farmer's Cotton Kimono Noragi

Jackets are measured lying flat.  Vertical sleeve measurements are sleeve taper or sleeve drop and should be doubled to give you the circumference of the sleeve.  Body width measurements should be doubled to give you body circumference.  Jacket lengths are measured from below the collar strip, and mompei lengths are measured from top of waist to bottom of hem.

SOLD K112 Antique Kimono Traveler's Cape, Antique Rare. 

This is the only one of these I have ever been able to present and I doubt that it will last long; they are simply too rare for everybody to get one!  Excellent condition for its age, the liner is solid indigo blue cotton and the shell is considered pinstripe, but I have also mentioned chalk-stripe because of the width of the stripes.  The stripes are tan on a darker brown background and the pattern is woven rather than dyed.  The cords inside and outside at the neck are used to secure the garment by tying around the bone (possibly ivory) rectangles attached for that purpose.  One of a kind, once in a lifetime most likely, this is truly a treasure.

Comments: Antique traveler's coat, the Japanese name is Dochu Gappa. It is an authentic antique; old cotton and all hand-sewn. Made before WW2, it is old but in excellent condition; you may wish to replace the closure cords, but that's optional.

K110 Antique Kimono Vest Indigo Kasuri Ikat. 

One thing the pictures don't convey is the sheer SIZE of this vest; look at the measurements below!  I am certain that there must be a particular use for this piece, but the fact of the matter is that I don't know what use it is.  It was suggested to me that it is a piece in which one sleeps, but I have no information that either supports or refutes that suggestion.  The picture bottom left shows the fuzzy light green thread tufts that are found in various locations on this piece.  Close examination will show you that the collar strip is a different color from the body fabric as well as a different ikat pattern.  Structurally sound and wearable.

K109 Antique Kimono Noragi Indigo Kasuri Ikat. 

Here is a lined piece that could possibly be a youth kimono, but it fits me so long as I don't try to overlap it in the traditonal way of kimono; it makes a fine longer jacket!  Some discoloration that may or may not come out with laundering, but not enough to detract from the look.  The cuffs are lined with black fabric and the indigo liner is faded in places.  Structurally sound and very wearable.

K108 Antique Kimono Kasuri Ikat Indigo Mompei.

This pair of mompei is for either a very small woman or can be taken apart to use for the fabric itself; your choice!  The inside of the waist band is accented with a completely different pattern and color of kasuri, and this mompei ends in wide hemmed cuffs.  There is some slight discoloration visible on the white of the pattern; this may or may not wash out but is not enough of a problem to be a real consideration.  Since the waist is not elastic and so very small, I am selling them at a ridiculously cheap price to use for the fabric.

K104 Antique Kimono Noragi Indigo Kasuri Ikat.

Longer garment may be intended as a youth kimono, but I have tried it on and it fits me fine so long as I leave it open and don't try to make it fit like kimono.  The liner of pale blue cotton is discolored and this discoloration seems to follow a folding pattern, especially on the lower liner.  Sound and wearable.

K91 Antique Kimono Indigo Kasuri Pattern Padded Noragi.

This is a dyed pattern; what I can't tell you for sure is if it is a rice paste resist dye or not.  I believe that it is but will not be held to it.  Suffice it to say that this is a truly wonderful old garment and would be an excellent addition to any wardrobe or collection of these fine old indigo pieces.  The lining is discolored with age and has a very coarse feel to it as though it was hand loomed, perhaps with another fiber besides cotton; maybe hemp?  In any event, it has some small areas of discoloration that are not very noticeable in person, probably because of the busy-ness of the pattern.  Here are your specs:

K86 Antique Shima Woven Cotton Vest, Lined. 

This one has a couple areas of staining like the one shown in the picture bottom right; most likely all will be fine with a wash!  The liner stripe is completely different from the exterior stripe, which is woven of purple, green, mauve and greenish gold with white detailing on the indigo ground.  Excellent condition, the specifics are:

K73 Antique Kimono Haori Noragi, Green & Yellow On Indigo.

This one just about refused to be photographed.  It is really a very interesting garment having green, yellow, white and a very subtle, nearly rosy color that is visible in the picture lower left.  It still has shitsuke and the cotton is slightly coarse to the touch; perhaps hand-spun?  In any event, the inside band of the sleeve is a completely different red and indigo ikat and the whole garment is in very good shape.  It measures wrist to wrist 49", body width 23", sleeves taper from 12 1/2" to 6 1/4", length 34".  It is $65.00.

SOLD K68 Antique Kimono Noragi Indigo Cotton Shima.

This one has only the shoulder liner, and there is slight color transfer there from the indigo shell.  This is a simple shima, or stripe in white on the indigo ground.  The sleeves are a bit more geometric, rather than curved on this one.  It is soft from washing and a very comfortable piece.  Excellent condition, it measures wrist to wrist 48 1/2", body width 24", sleeves taper from 12" to 7", length is 28".  It is $55.00.             

K19 Antique Kimono Hitoe Noragi Woven Cotton Shima.

Nearly identical to the exterior shell of the garment above, this one is slightly softer and unlined but for the cheerful black and white shoulder liner.  This one has finished slits at the side seams and is a perfect summer garment even on the hottest days!  It measure wrist to wrist 48", body width 23 1/2", sleeves taper from 10 1/4" to 6 3/4" and length is 25 1/2".  It is $65.00.
