Graniteware Items

Antique Graniteware Large Funnel, Grey Fine Relish.
This is a larger funnel, most likely used in canning preserves or something
similar, due to the relatively small throat. This is the Grey Fine Relish
pattern; you can see how small and even the patterning is on this. The
more noticeable chips are the two shown in the photo bottom left; this really is
in nice condition. Even the small mouth end of the funnel is in better
than average condition, with only minor damage, and some minor chipping also to
the upper mouth. As I say, this is a big one, measuring about 7 1/2"
across and 8 1/2" tall. It is $29.00.
 .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Graniteware Loaf Pan, Grey Large Relish.
As you can see, the Relish pattern on this one is large and bold; it is very
distinct and has a much greater impact in person than these photos show.
The pan has never been twisted or bent, which is why the porcelain is in such
wonderful condition. There actually is some minor chipping to the top and
bottom edges, but this pattern is so overpowering that you have to FEEL for the
chips because they are nearly invisible to the eye. Nice standard size for
the era, this measures 11 1/2" x 5 7/8" x 3", and it is $29.00.
.jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Antique Grey Relish Graniteware Diaper Pail, Bucket.
This is SO much finer in person than the pictures can show you here. The
bottom right picture shows an interior chip; there are no exterior chips to
photograph. Also in that picture you can just make out the rounded top
panels that are so much easier to see in person. Still having a nearly
pristine label, it is a sure bet that this was never used. It most likely
was given as a gift and got shoved into a closet somewhere and didn't see the
light of day again until I photographed it for you! You could imagine tons
of decorative uses for this; it measures 9 3/4" across the rolled-out mouth and
is 8 3/4" tall. The heavy wire bail and wooden handle are also in
excellent condition, and this piece is a steal at $45.00.
.jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Grey Skimmer Ladle, Antique Graniteware.
This one has several coats of porcelain, as evidenced by the weight and by the
smooth, glass-like finish. Most likely an unused piece, there is no
porcelain breakage even at the point where the bowl of the skimmer meets the
handle. A very pretty addition to your utensil collection, it measures
about 13 3/4" long from the curve of the handle hook to the end of the skimmer's
bowl, and the bowl is 4" in diameter and around 1 1/2" deep. It is $28.00.
.jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Antique Graniteware Skimmer, Grey Relish.
This one is a bit different, with a shallower curve to the hanging hook end of
the ladle's shaft. This one does have the typical breakage to the
porcelain where handle and bowl join, but no other chipping is present.
This pretty thing measures 11 3/8" from the curve of the handle to the outer end
of the bowl. The bowl is 3 15/16" across and about 1 1/4" deep. It
is $24.00.
.jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
SOLD
Antique Graniteware Unused White Water Dipper w/Label.
It doesn't get more perfect than this! This is technically a water dipper
rather than a ladle; the sides of the bowl are less tapered and the bottom of
the bowl is flat rather than curved. The picture bottom right shows the
handle rolled to meet at the center in a V shape which gives easy access to the
hanging hole on the front side of the handle. It measures about 12 1/2"
long overall, and the bowl measures 5" OD and is 2 1/4" deep. It is only
$24.00.

SOLD
Vintage Graniteware Cream Can, Cobalt Blue.
This is a heavier piece, which indicates more coats of porcelain over the steel
than what is usual. As you can see, the lid is designed with a groove
which mates up to a corresponding bump inside the top of the cream can so that
you can turn the lid and keep it snug to inhibit spills. All around lovely
condition, it is of Polish origin like so many of the heavier solid color pieces
with white interiors. It stands a bit over 8" to the top of the loop
finial and is 4" OD at the bottom. It is $29.00.
 .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Antique Cream Can, Bright Red.
One of the most sought after solid colors is the bright red seen here.
This brilliant red one is the same size as the Cobalt blue above but is a bit
older. Also made in Poland, this one has come visible chipping to the
bottom edge of the lid and some where the bail is attached to the side loops,
seen in the photos. Still an excellent addition to your collection, it is
$27.00.
 .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Antique Cream or Milk Can, Medium Blue Graniteware.
This is a larger cream can that could be used for milk too. Some chipping
to the lower edge of the lid and one bail side loop, there are no body chips or
bottom chips and the piece seems largely unused. Made in Poland and of a
nearly Robin's egg blue, it stands 11 1/2" tall at the top of the loop finial
and is 5 5/8" OD across the bottom. Heavy, pretty piece, it is $29.00.

SOLD
Antique Graniteware Hot Water Pot.
Most of these were used in restaurants and in hospitals and were for single cup
servings of hot tea. This little pot would be brought on a saucer or small
tray with a teabag nestled beside it and you steeped your tea in the cup that
was already in front of you. These saw hard use, which is evidenced by
both the photos and the price, but at least one of these is necessary to
complete a collection. Happily, the chips are fairly superficial and do
not constitute the kind of damage that would prevent the pot from holding water
without leaking. It measures about 4 1/4" to the top of the spun knob and
around 6" from the tip of the gooseneck spout to the back of the handle.
It is $18.00.
 .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Antique Cream & Green Graniteware Coffee, Green Glass Insert.
This is a pretty pot in good condition, but no basket and stem inside.
This one has the Depression Green Glass insert, which glows brightly in a black
light and is getting more and more difficult to find. As you can see in
the photos, there are a few small chips to the porcelain, but no actually
damaging defects. It stands about 8 3/4" tall to the top of the glass
insert, and is about the same measure from the tip of the V spout to the back of
the handle. It is only $45.00.
 .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Antique Grey Relish Berry Bucket, Graniteware.
Berry buckets are impossible to find, so I am very pleased to be able to offer
this one. You can see that there is a bent place on the bottom rim, and
that there is some very minor damage to the porcelain at the 'ears' that hold
the wire bail, but in an all around way, this is in excellent condition, as
evidenced in the photos. The bucket measures 3 3/4" tall to the rim, 4
1/2" to the tip of the ear, 4 5/8" diameter, and 7 3/4" tall with the handle
fully extended. It is $39.00.
 .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Vintage Graniteware Ball Teapot, Bright Orange.
This is brilliantly, merrily orange in color with black trim and a white inside.
There are a couple of factory speckles from bubbles occurring in the porcelain;
I mention this only to cover myself with those who would take exception to my
use of the word 'mint,' which would be the most accurate descriptive term for
this one. Nice glossy little pot, it measures about 4 7/8" tall to the top
of the spun knob and around 8" from the tip of the gooseneck spout to the back
of the handle. It is $35.00.
 .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Antique Graniteware Sky Blue Bachelor's Coffee Boiler.
Bachelor is the term we use for what would be considered a single serving piece;
larger than a child's or salesman's sample, but much smaller than general issue
pieces. In very pretty condition with a few minor chips to the porcelain
seen in the pictures, this one measures only 6 1/2" to the top of the loop
finial and about 4 5/8" from the tip of the V spout to the back of the handle.
It has the tin bracket that attaches the lid to the handle of the pot, which was
fairly common during the period. It is only $25.00.
.jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Cream & Green Coffeepot Coffee Boiler.
Most likely of American manufacture, due to the lack of a mark center bottom of
the piece, this one is in very nice conditon, as the pictures will show. I
would say it did not take heavy use at any time. The chip you see on the
underside of the lid in the final picture is the largest flaw on the piece, and
it is not obvious when the pot is properly displayed. There are several
tiny pinpoints of missing porcelain on the body of the piece; this is the sort
of thing caused by debris in the firing area while the pot is being made; these
are not chips. Nice heavy piece, it measures 9 1/2" to the top of the spun
knob on the lid, and is 5 3/4" across the base. It is $65.00.
 .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Grey & White Relish Pattern Footed Colander.
Although you may want to clean this one with a bit of oven cleaner (your choice,
not necessary) it is a piece that displays very well; either in spite of or
because of the chips present. This is a harder to find color and style of
colander; the two side handles are unusual enough, but the hanging loop is the
best part, other than the collar foot base. Side presentation and interior
presentation are quite good, as you can see; the only larger chipa are on the
bottom, which aren't seen unless you display the piece inverted. It
measures 10 1/2" across the top, 9" across the collar base, and stands 5 1/4"
high. Priced with the flaws accounted for, it is $35.00.
.jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Graniteware Coffee Boiler, Black & White Relish.
On careful examination, you will notice that this is a black and white relish,
not grey. Black and white is much more difficult to find, although not as
difficult as the brown and white relish. This is a gooseneck coffee
boiler, and like almost all boilers of this size, it has a tin lid, which is
hinged. If you wanted a matching lid, you had to special order the coffee
pot, and then the lid would be a separate piece. The only place where this
varied was in the white pieces, which generally had matching white hinged lids.
This one has seen use, but is in incredibly good condition for all of that.
What you see on the bottom of the pot is the sort of blacking that occurs from
use; this would actually come off with oven cleaner if you wanted to go to the
trouble. There is a small chip in the porcelain on the spout, which is
photographed for you, but the body and handle are remarkably free of chips;
somebody took good care of this one. The tin lid has excellent patina from
age. This pot measures about 9" tall to the top of the knob, 9" from spout
tip to handle, 5 3/4" across the base, and 4" across the mouth, so it has a nice
tapered shape. Its book value in the mid nineties was $275.00, and I have
priced it at $125.00.
 .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Graniteware Ladle, Blue & White, Black Handle.
Here is a royal blue ladle in awesome condition! It has one small chip in
the blue at the handle, seen in the last photo, and a chip in the white shown in
the photo above that one. The presentation of this one is excellent.
It is a lot heavier than it looks, which indicates the quality of the metal
used, as well as the number of coats of porcelain over the metal. Usually
when blue and black appear on the same piece, the country of origin is Sweden,
but I think not in this case. I think this is an American piece; it is
simply too heavy to have come from anywhere else. The bowl measures 3 7/8"
across, and about 2" deep, or just a shade more than that. The handle is
10 3/4" from the edge of the bowl to the top of the curve where the hanging bend
is placed. This one is a steal at only $24.00.

SOLD
Graniteware Pudding Pan, Blue & White Swirl.
Not to be confused with the cheesy reproductions of this color; this is the real
deal. It is quite heavy for its size, and is in very nice condition.
You can see in the photos that it has a few dings, but nothing damaging and
nothing that affects the overall presentation of the piece from either side.
The exterior chip you see in the photo bottom left does not go through to the
white interior. This one measures 11 1/8" across at the top, and 8" across
the base. It is just over 3 1/8" deep. Very nice piece, it is not
priced at the mid nineties book value of $195.00, but is priced much more
reasonably at only $48.00.
.jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Graniteware Coffee Boiler, Grey Relish Pattern.
Here is a more typical example of the graniteware coffees; the grey relish
pattern with tin lid and V spout. This is the one you want if you want one
that is still functional, meaning it holds liquids with no leaks, but has the
look of a bit harder use, as noted by the body chip on the left hander's side,
and by the flaking chips seen close to the base on the right hander's side.
The all over presentation is excellent for a country kitchen or 'camp house'
look like some people use in hunting lodges. This is a nice medium, easy
to use size, being 8 1/4" tall to the top of the spun knob, 7" from spout tip to
the back of the contoured strap handle, 5 3/4" across the base, and 4" across
the mouth. Oddly, the bottom of the pot is almost pristine, and the all
over gloss is in excellent shape. This one is only $45.00.

SOLD
Graniteware Teapot, Ball Shape, Green.
This is darker than apple green, but not quite avocado green. It is bright
white inside, with some tea staining at the strainer holes, which will most
likely come out with either bleach, vinegar, or oven cleaner; don't laugh, your
oven interior is porcelain over steel, just like graniteware, and oven cleaner
is very effective on either one. Most of this color was made in Poland,
but this one does not have the Poland mark, and seems a bit heavier than the
Polish wares; I believe it is American in origin. Anyway, this is a medium
sized teapot, standing about 6" tall to the top of the spun knob on the lid, it
is not quite 3" across the base, the widest part of the ball measures about 5
1/2", and from the tip of the spout to the back of the handle, it is about 9
1/4". The condition is near mint, and the price is $27.00.
.jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg)
Graniteware Measure, Liquid Quart, Grey Small Swirl.
This is in really excellent condition, with only the most minor color loss at
the rim edges. Exterior gloss is in near perfect condition, and the inside
gloss is also intact with the exception of the bottom inside, which is uniformly
less glossy. Note the abbreviation of 'liquid' embossed on the side near
the top! This piece measures 5 1/2" tall to the edge on the handle side,
and 6 1/4" tall at the center of the lip. The base is just under 4 1/4" in
diameter. Very nice piece, it is $125.00.
